Professor Stowasser was on the faculty at Georgetown University from to the present, earning in the title of Professor of Arabic and Islamic Studies in the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies and served as department chair for nine years. Some of her most prized accomplishments were the Academic Keynote Address to the Turkish National Assembly Celebration of National Sovereignty, at the invitation of the President of the Turkish National Assembly in ; the receipt of the Doctor of Humane Letter honoris causa awarded by George -town University in ; being instrumental in establishing the Georgetown Alanya Center for Turkish Studies, and serving as the President of the Middle East Studies Association from The family wishes to thank her colleagues and students at Georgetown University and around the world for the overwhelming outpouring of support and admiration during her illness and passing. The family also appreciates the staff at Sibley Memorial Hospital for their friendship and compassion during her last days.
