She presents Her form to us as a Goddess with the head of a male lion and the body of a woman. Her form and energy represent the balance between the masculine and the feminine Shiva-Shakti. It is a representation of yin-yang, the balance between opposing forces, enabling Her devotees to transcend dualities into Ekatvam, or Oneness with their higher Self. Pratyangira Devi is the embodiment of Dharma righteousness , Satya truth and impeccable justice.
She is the Mother of Moksha liberation , freeing Her devotees of their karmas and from the cycle of life, death, and rebirth. This Mother takes form when there is much to be brought into balance in the world. The Pratyangira aspect of the Divine Mother has been kept somewhat secret for much of history.
They bring Her consciousness and energies into the world in a pristine and approachable manner. Throughout the Ages, Pratyangira Devi has been patiently and gracefully waiting to reveal Herself, with Her heart ready receive us. It is our choice to take hold of Her hand; She has been waiting to embrace us. Through Her Grace, a devotee becomes a pure refined soul. She exists there, waiting to be awakened within. In the Void, everything is unmanifest and in a potent state. The state of Void is paradoxical because it is both powerful and powerless at the same time.
She asks of us only our devotion, and in return she gives infinitely, revealing to us our True Nature. She is always by the side of Her devotees and protects them. Mother Pratyangira teaches us by removing fear and pain from our lives. She shows us that our attachments to certain aspects of our lives cause these circumstances of fear or anguish. A refusal to let go is refusing to release the attachment which causes our pain.
Once there is a release, there is Void. The experience of this Void for the first time is like a journey home. There has always been this comfort and, there has always been this Mother. Still, as God is infinite, there are many aspects to the Divine Mother energy. Two rishis saints in ancient times experienced one such aspect of the Divine Mother. Deep in this meditative and blissful state, the rishis discovered a form of the Divine Mother. And though this aspect of the Mother was nameless, She honored the rishis by giving the blessing to be named after them.
The head is that of a male lion, and the body is that of a woman, representing the union of Shiva and Shakti. In her full form, she is humongous, with heads symbolically representing the petalled Sahasrara Chakra, the universal chakra of the cosmic energy and hands, riding majestically on a chariot pulled by four lions representing the 4 Vedas , carrying many swords for removing obstacles.
The jaws of so many lions make it very powerful for destroying negative karmas, and a great blessing for anyone on a spiritual path. She takes this fierce form to keep Adharma unrighteousness under check and to restore Dharma righteousness. They consider Pratyangira Devi to be their Gurumata spiritual parent and teacher.
Ancient traditions and civilizations like Egypt and Tibet have recognized the energy of Pratyangira Devi, and refer to this Mother as Sekhmet and Simhamukha , respectively. Their traditions talk about the astounding potency of this aspect of the Divine Mother. Atharvana Bhadrakali is another of Her names, Bhadra meaning auspiciousness.
